FAQ

1. What is this QSFP+ to SFP+ adapter converter used for?

It provides 10G Ethernet connectivity on a 40G QSFP+ port. You can plug a 10G SFP+ transceiver into this adapter, then insert the adapter into a 40G QSFP+ port of an Arista switch — a cost-effective way to use existing 10G optics without upgrading the switch port.

2. What does "Arista compatible" mean?

The module is designed and tested to work seamlessly with Arista 40G QSFP+ switches. It is MSA compliant, so it can also operate in standard QSFP+ ports from other mainstream vendors in most cases.

3. Which MSA standards does this module comply with?

It is compliant with QSFP+ MSA SFF-8436 and SFP+ MSA SFF-8431, ensuring mechanical and electrical interoperability with industry-standard QSFP+ and SFP+ interfaces.

4. How does the built-in MCU work?

The built-in MCU enables I2C reading of SFP+ registers by reading the QSA registers, allowing the host switch to monitor and manage the inserted SFP+ module (DDM/DOM diagnostics, temperature, voltage, etc.) as if it were a native 40G module.

5. Why is only lane 1 of the QSFP+ connector connected?

The SFP+ receptacle uses a single 10G lane. In this adapter, the SFP+ receptacle is connected to lane 1 of the QSFP+ connector; the other three channels are intentionally not connected, which is the standard design for QSFP+ to SFP+ (QSA) adapters.

6. Does it work with switches from other brands, such as Cisco, Juniper or Huawei?

This unit is Arista compatible. Since it follows the QSFP+ and SFP+ MSA standards, it can often be used in generic or other vendor MSA-compliant ports, but we recommend confirming port compatibility for non-Arista platforms before mass deployment.

7. Is the module hot-pluggable and does it need configuration?

Yes, it is hot-pluggable per QSFP+ MSA. No additional configuration is typically required — the switch auto-negotiates and the 10G link comes up after inserting a 10G SFP+ module.

8. What is the operating temperature range?

0℃ to 70℃ (commercial temperature range), suitable for standard data center and enterprise environments.

9. What is the difference between this adapter and a QSFP+ to SFP+ breakout cable?

This adapter lets you reuse an existing 10G SFP+ transceiver in a 40G port, while a breakout cable splits one 40G port into four independent 10G ports. The adapter converts port type; the breakout cable multiplies port count.

10. What are the MOQ, samples, and warranty?

MOQ is flexible for standard modules, samples are available for testing before bulk order, and OEM/ODM (custom logo, packaging, private label) is supported. Standard warranty is 12 months with 24-hour technical support.

11. Can I use 10G SFP+ modules from other brands with this adapter?

Yes. The adapter supports standard MSA-compliant 10G SFP+ transceivers (SR, LR, ER, copper DAC, etc.), so you can reuse your existing 10G optics regardless of module brand.

12. Does it support DDM/DOM monitoring?

Yes. Thanks to the built-in MCU, the host switch can read the SFP+ module's diagnostic registers (temperature, TX/RX power, voltage) via I2C QSA register mapping, giving full DDM visibility.

13. What is the power consumption?

The adapter itself consumes minimal power (typically under 1W); total power depends on the inserted SFP+ module. This makes it an energy-efficient alternative to adding a separate 10G switch.

14. Which fiber cable types can I use?

Any cable with standard LC duplex connectors — 10G SFP+ SR multimode (OM3/OM4) or LR single mode — depending on the SFP+ module you plug in. The adapter does not limit cable type.

15. Can it be used with 40G QSFP+ DAC or AOC cables?

No. This adapter accepts a 10G SFP+ module, not a QSFP+ cable. For 40G QSFP+ DAC/AOC applications, use a native 40G port or a QSFP+ breakout solution.

16. How do I know if the link is working after installation? After inserting the adapter with a 10G SFP+ module, check the switch port status and DDM readouts. The SFP+ register values can be verified through the switch CLI to confirm the module is recognized.

17. Is the adapter tested on real Arista switches before shipping? Yes, our adapters are validated against mainstream Arista 40G QSFP+ platforms, and each unit passes functional testing before delivery. Test reports are available on request.

18. What if the link does not come up?

First, verify the SFP+ module is MSA-compliant and fully seated; confirm the fiber patch cord and far-end device are 10G-capable; then check the port status in the switch CLI. Our 24-hour technical support can guide you through troubleshooting.

19. Do you provide custom labeling or branding?

Yes, OEM/ODM is supported: custom label text, serial number format, logo printing and private-label packaging are all available for volume orders.

20. What is the shipping and after-sales support?

We ship via DHL/FedEx/UPS or sea freight with FOB/CIF/DDP terms. 12-month warranty, replacement for defective units, and 24-hour pre-sales and after-sales technical support.
