FAQ

Q1: What is an armored fiber patch cable and why should I choose it over a standard patch cord?

A: An armored fiber patch cable features a built-in interlocking steel armor layer between the jacket and the fiber core. It protects fibers from crushing, abrasion, cutting, pulling and even rodent damage in hazardous installation areas, helping prevent costly network outages. Unlike standard patch cords, it survives harsh environments with no extra protection needed.

Q2: What do "LC APC Duplex" and "OS2" mean on this patch cord?

A: LC is a small-form-factor duplex connector widely used in data centers and access networks. APC (Angled Physical Contact) is an 8° angled polish that minimizes back reflection. Duplex means two fibers (TX/RX) in one connector pair. OS2 is a 9/125µm single-mode fiber optimized for long-reach and building backbone applications.

Q3: What is the difference between APC and UPC connectors?

A: APC uses an 8° angled end face, typically green housing, and provides higher return loss (lower reflection), ideal for GPON/EPON, CATV and high-precision single-mode links. UPC has a flat end face, blue housing, and is used in most standard single-mode and multimode networks. Connector polish must match the equipment and mating adapters on both ends.

Q4: What does Riser (OFCR) rating mean and where can this cable be installed?

A: OFCR (Optical Fiber Cable, Riser) is a fire-performance rating per NEC Article 770 / NFPA 262, meaning the jacket is flame-retardant and suitable for vertical riser runs between floors in buildings. It is a compliant choice for riser pathways, telecom rooms, closets and general indoor structured cabling.

Q5: Can this armored cable be installed without conduit?

A: Yes. That is one of its key advantages. The integral steel armor already provides a crush-resistant pathway, so no conduit is required. This reduces material cost, installation labor and pathway space, and simplifies routing in tight or exposed areas.

Q6: What are the insertion loss and return loss specifications?

A: Typical insertion loss is ≤0.3 dB per connection, and typical return loss is ≥55 dB for APC polish. The cable is 100% factory tested and complies with TIA/EIA-568.3 and IEC 61754 connector standards.

Q7: What is the cable construction and size?

A: It uses OS2 single-mode 9/125µm fiber with a 3.0mm outer diameter jacket, reinforced by an interlocking steel armor layer and a Riser (OFCR) flame-retardant jacket. The compact 3.0mm profile and armor allow a smaller bend radius and easier handling than conventional conduit-protected cable.

Q8: What applications is this armored patch cord best suited for?

A: Data center structured cabling, FTTH/FTTx and GPON/EPON OLT-to-ONT links, industrial automation, security/CCTV systems, and any indoor or building access scenario where cables face crushing, pulling or abrasion risk. It is also ideal for outdoor-to-indoor transition points where extra mechanical protection is needed.

Q9: Can I get custom lengths, OEM/ODM options and private labeling?

A: Yes. We support custom lengths (e.g. 0.5m–100m), custom jacket color, logo printing, label and packaging design, and connector combinations (SC/ST/FC/LC, UPC/APC, simplex/duplex). Please provide your specification for a tailored quotation.

Q10: What are the MOQ, packaging, lead time and warranty?

A: MOQ is flexible and typically 100 pcs; each piece is individually bagged and shipped in export cartons. Stock items ship within 3–7 days; customized orders typically 15–20 days after confirmation. Every cable is 100% tested before shipment. Please contact us for warranty terms and bulk pricing.
